A Philosophical Assessment Free Essays

A Philosophical Assessment in Kauchak amp; Eggen: Chapter 7 (Examining Your Beliefs). Spear DeLong Of the four ways of thinking of instruction; Perennialism, Essentialism, Progressivism and Social reconstructionism, the one that appear to best accommodate my key convictions would be reflected in Essentialism theory. This is, on the grounds that I accept that the job of the government funded educational system is to show understudies fundamental components of information that at that point thusly empowers the understudy to improvement basic reasoning aptitudes related with cutting edge basic reasoning. We will compose a custom article test on A Philosophical Assessment or on the other hand any comparative point just for you Request Now These educated aptitudes must be applied after an understudy has picked up the information important to work viably in the public arena, and simply after he comprehends that society would he be able to settle on basic choices identifying with that society. The difficulties recognized in the circumstance presented by the course book work out; â€Å"Decision Making: Developing Your Philosophy of Education†, can be investigated through the point of view of this instructive way of thinking in that capacity: The essential reason of what are the duties of the training framework and how we accomplish basic deduction addresses the issues introduced in the initial segment of this activity. The pith of understanding about one's thought process and settling on choices on, must initially be set up in the understudies mind, would be my sentiment. Essentialism, is the possibility that revolves around fundamental realities that must be learned with the goal for understudies to connect with and take part in such actuates. Essentialism is a conviction that life is a progression of building squares and certain facts must be discovered that permits the understudy to accomplish headway and a comprehension of the general public and the way of life where they are settling on choice on. This way of thinking must likewise be taken a gander at in the light of our Christian world view and the Bible. The Bible must be the premise and impression of all philosophical truth. Paul cautions us in Col. 2:8, â€Å"Beware in case any man ruin you through way of thinking and vain double dealing, after the custom of men, after the fundamentals of the world, and not after Christ†. In spite of the fact that not every single common way of thinking are beguiling and drawing us away from Christ, I accept that any that question the essential occupants of instruction set out in the sacred writing to be in opposition to said and effortlessly disassociated. The fundamental rule recognized by essentialists is that there are basic truth and those certainties are to be conferred in the instructive framework. While supreme realities are conveyed through sacred writing and fundamental scholastic facts with respect to history, English, arithmetic, and writing are the reason for this way of thinking; one must recognize this, to be the fundamental duty of an instructive framework, granting absolutes, to be an essentialist. Other instructive methods of reasoning that encourage the way toward finding truth instead of recognizing truth must be perceived for what they are â€Å"vain deceit†. Another rule the essentialists would maintain, is that learning requires discipline and typically is cultivated through difficult work. This is by all accounts adversely reflected in the circumstance introduced in the reading material. The understudies in the model appear to have been the result of a framework that doesn't train individual control and difficult work as confirm in their demeanor for a brisk arrangement and want to realize exactly what is required to get by. On the off chance that these understudies had been presented to a framework related with discipline and difficult work and that was the norm, questions, for example, â€Å"why do we need to gain proficiency with this stuff† would not have been acted and remarks such like â€Å"C’mon simply mention to us what you need us to know† shouldn't be made in light of the fact that understudies would have discovered that difficult work and order delivers typically positive outcomes. It appears that these understudies have been given and have not figured out how to function for their instruction. In the event that these primary standards had been imparted into these understudies through a restrained learning condition they would not have been left to their own devises as it appears these understudies have, yet would have built up a conscious controlled technique to learning one that would have been estimated and demonstrated however testing. Likewise, in the circumstance introduced, there appeared to be a component of lack of regard related to the framework and the educator. The component of accommodation to power has not been ingrained in the understudies. Paul lets us know in I Peter 5:5, â€Å"Likewise, ye more youthful, submit yourselves unto the senior. Yea, every one of you be subject to each other, and be dressed with quietude: for God resisteth the pleased, and giveth elegance to the humble†, the component of power and the regard thereof has apparently not been built up in this learning condition. The essentialist perceives the conventional instructor focused way of thinking where the regard for power is the reason for the significance of the data being imparted. The giving of information, data, and abilities from the more established (apparently more astute) age to the more youthful one is basic in this way of thinking. The teacher’s obligation isn't just to grant those referenced components of fundamental instruction, yet in addition to ingrain regard for power, and good standards as considered satisfactory in a general public. The circumstance depicted in said situation is by all accounts a reoccurring difficulty perceived in our government funded educational systems today. This appears not to be a need to reclassify the instructive framework, however a need to readdress jobs and obligations. Returning to the standards of the organizer of the essentialist instructive hypothesis, William C. Bagley is by all accounts the appropriate response. His premise standards of â€Å"the perceived right of a youthful understudy to the direction of an accomplished, mindful, and refined teacher†, would appeared to have settled the accepted mentality of the understudies being referred to of non-significance of training. That â€Å"the bestowing of the beliefs of network to each succeeding age of children†, would have settled the issue of regard for the showing framework and instructor and would have encouraged the sentiment of network and society. Having a particular program of studies that necessary painstaking quality, precision, determination, and great workmanship with respect to pupils†, would have set the priority and give the understudies explicitly what was expected of them. I would concur with Professor Bagley’s’ proclamation of â€Å"(American ) essentialism is grounded in a preservationist theory that acknowledges the social, political, and monetary structure of American culture and schools ought make an effort not to profoundly reshape society†. I hold to a similar idea that American schools ought to transmit the conventional virtues and scholarly information and those understudies need to become model residents. I hold to the fundamental inhabitant that when an understudy leaves school that they ought to have essential abilities and a broad collection of information, discipline and a down to earth mind that at that point permits them to apply school building exercises in a genuine and pragmatic world. At long last I accept the American educational system is in decay as confirm in the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The aftereffects of these test demonstrated that just around 33% of American understudies displayed capability in innovation and science. â€Å"Living in the past† is the expression I will use as some think about the way that during the 1950s SAT scores arrived at an unequaled high as reflected by the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS), reviewing Adults 16-65 relating not to math and science yet education. As years pass by measurements keep on dropping. The present organization has guaranteed much additionally spending on their â€Å"Race to the Top† activity with appearing to be next to zero positive outcomes. Some will discover pardons for the decay, yet I can't help thinking that the dynamic mentality identifying with current instructive methods of reasoning isn't really working and that an arrival to conventional qualities and demonstrated speculations of training would be judicious to come back to. A philosophical model of instruction that mirrors the standards of extreme facts don't change and that sound preservationist practices of essentialism appears be the reason for this arrival. In any setting, the following scenario is not uncommon. There is the sale department that has lots of computers, customer information and is only accessible to specific individuals within the sales department. There is the marketing department that has a database with lots of information about clients. These details mainly touch on the items bought by the clients, their interests, sectors within which they operate and the information sent to them. This is unlike the sale department that has contacts, addresses, quotations, emails and letters sent to the clients. There i s also the finance department that has information regarding the clients names, addresses, amounts purchased and the credit they owe the company (Davies, 2007, p.69). There is the services department that deals with clients names and addresses, complaints, feedback, issues arising in their service and the progress made by projects the organization is taking with the clients. There is also a place where the employees meet often like the water cooler or local eatery where they have snacks or some drinks. While here, they chitchat, talk about clients, exchange information, discussing products and people moving from one destination to the other and any new opportunities in the market. This shows that there is a lot of information within any given organization that relates to the clients. The problem is how this same information can be shared within the organization to help in creating a better rapport with the clients. Instead of having the information within specific job functions, it is imperative that the organization understands ways of meeting information sharing opportunities that will help in placing client needs at the middle of all operations in the organization. There is a need to ensure that information that is found in an organization is not compartmentalized. If the corporate knowledge on their customers is low, they will have a slower pace of accessing information and delivering it rapidly to their customers. This will in turn compromise customer service, and degrade their efficacy in dealing with arising issues (Farris, Bendle and Reibstein, 2010, p.20). This is where the CRM application comes in it enables the organizations to make the moves towards customer-cantered organization. This allows the organization to automate information regarding the clients and allowing authorized personnel to view it. This makes it easy when a client asks an employee on information regarding their position in the organization, and the employee can easily retrieve it without wasting time for the clients. Clients who are a customer centred organization feel valued because any issues raised, complaints or feedback regarding the particular customer can be easily retrieved and their issues sorted speedily at any time and by any authorized employee. Thee same organizations have higher customer retention rates compared to others since clients prefer an environment where efficacy is evident (Davies, 2007, p.72). With CRM, companies benefit from the services offered to the clients at any time. Loyalty helps in ensuring that the organization retains the very best clients while at the same time using them as advertisers through word-of-mouth. Employees are happy because their services are appreciated by both the clients and management. This means that their compensation will be better and their job satisfaction rates will be higher compared to those who are in organizations that are not customer centred. As such, the use of CRM is critical for any company that wishes to maintain customer loyalty and satisfaction. As clients move from one organization to the next, they will always compare the services and the way they are catered for while in that organization. As they work on meeting their goals, they will always have an opinion based on how fast they were served and how well their issues were taken when considerations regarding automation. Technology is critical in this venture, and organizations have to consider every step to be a challenge towards proving their worth to the clients who entrust them with their savings.Research aim The main aim of this research is getting a clear description of the impact that CRM plays in enhancing customer loyalty and satisfaction. It will also be an essential means of understanding how an organization can enhance these two attributes by use of CRM. Maintenance of these attributes will be researched as well. Research objectives:To assess the important factors that influence customer satisfaction and loyalty in the banking sectorTo investigate how CRM can be employed effectively in maintenance of customer satisfaction and loyalty in the banking sectorTo examine how the banking sector can enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty in their organizations Rationale of the study:Organizations are at all times looking for ways of meeting their goals, while improving on their profitability. However, profitability comes with the earning of customer loyalty and enhancing their satisfaction within the organization. By conducting this research, the main attributes of CRM will be understood and aspects that help ascertain customer loyalty discussed. By studying this strategy, one is able to understand the customer, retain them through better consumer experience, win new clients through word-of-mouth and referrals, increase on their profitability, attract new clients, and decrease customer management costs. The literature review will examine these aspects in details, opening a closer sc rutiny on the way CRM is used in organizations in modern-day organizations. There are different strategies that can be used to woo clients based on their needs, wants, desires and areas of specialization. It goes without saying that an organization is only effective if they can attain their goals within a prescribed timeframe. Research will be done to ascertain if this is actually the case, and how long the banking sector takes to achieve its goals. As the organization works on retaining the customers, they must work on compensating the employees as they are the ones that interact directly with the clients. Questionnaires will be used to gauge the impact of this interaction and the benefits that will be achieved by having this system in place. Significance of the study:Globalization has made the competition to rise a...

The Nazi Regime Essay - 1748 Words

The Nazi Regime In this essay I will be analyzing the statement; The most important reason why there was little opposition towards the Nazi regime was because of its use of propaganda. In order to do this I will explain how the Nazis actions and the events leading up to the war prevented opposition. During the pre ww2 era and particularly in the 1930s Hitler focused a lot of his attention on the propaganda surrounding himself and the policies of his Nazi party. A massive propaganda campaign was launched which aimed to convince the German people that all the Nazis did was right and good. The man behind this campaign was Josef Goebbles, a vain, ambitious, anti- Semitic womanizer. Geobbles†¦show more content†¦Of course, Hitler seized on this event and claimed that a bolshevist revolution was underway in Germany and that communist were attempting to seize power. The church was also involved in opposing Nazi regimes. An organization called the confessing church was formed. It spoke out against Nazism, how it infiltrated the church and the Nazi anti Semitic policies. Members of the Confessing Church also helped approximately 2000 Jews escape to freedom. Probably one of the most significant and blatant acts of opposition towards Nazism occurred during the latter stages of the war in July 1944 when a bomb plot executed by members of the German army took place. The intent was to kill Hitler and hopefully end his regime, however the plan failed and Hitler survived despite badly injuring his right arm. The plan was nicknamed the Stauffenberg bomb plot. Although the opposition instances mentioned caused the Nazis some concern, Goebbles and his Nazi propaganda machine managed to overcome them. They did this by taking control of the medial and cultural aspects of Germany to win over the German people. They also manipulated events (e.g. the Reichstag fire) using propaganda to abolish any opponents who were seen as a threat towards the Nazi power struggle. Goebbles fought for control of newspaper companies and radio stations and hundreds of pro-Nazi films were made. The scientific study, â€Å"Behavior Predictors of Language Development over Two Years in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders,† conducted by Karen D. This study was conducted in British Columbia, Canada from data retrieved from a database of another study. The goal of this study was to determine if certain types of behaviors often displayed by autistic children before intervention could be predictors of the language abilities they would develop. All of the children in this study were diagnosed with autism before the study began and after some length of early intervention (not all of the early intervention programs were the same). Data of the severity of the children’s autism and language skills were initially collected and were then collected again after 6, 12, and 24 months. The data collected was collected by a team of psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and graduate students who conducted interviews. The scores each child received on the language and vocabulary tests served as the dependent variable in this study. These scores came from several tests performed by psychologists including the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, the Expressive One-word Picture Vocabulary Test, and the Preschool Language Scale. The children’s behaviors (the independent variable in this study) were collected through a series of surveys of the children’s parents of primary caregiver. Philosophy An Enquiry Concerning The Principles Of Morals Essay Example For Students

Philosophy An Enquiry Concerning The Principles Of Morals Essay What is a moral? This is a question that has plagued philosophers for many years. Is it possible to have a set of universal morals? There are many questions that surround the mystery of morals. They seem to drive our every action. We base our decisions on what is right and what is wrong. But what is it that actually determines what is right and what is wrong? Is it our sense of reason? Is it our sense of sentiment? This is a question that David Hume spent much of his life pondering. What exactly is it that drives our actions? Yes, morals drive them, but what determines what our morals are? What is it that ultimately drives our actions; our feelings or our minds? Hume would say that it is our sentiment that ultimately drives our actions. According to Hume, reason is incapable of motivating an action. According to Hume, reason cannot fuel an action and therefore cannot motivate it. Hume feel that all actions are motivated by our sentiment. For example, on page 84 Appendix I, he gives the example of a criminal. It resides in the mind of the person, who is ungrateful. He must, therefore, feel it, and be conscious of it. Here, it is evident that Hume is saying that unless the person, or criminal in this case, sincerely believes in what he wants to do, he will not be able to motivate the action. In other words, unless the sentiment is there, the action cannot be willed into being. Hence, the sentiment is the driving force behind the action. Hume does not however say that reason is incapable of determining wether an action is virtuous or vicious (moral or immoral), but instead he tries to say that the reason for the morality of an action does not dictate the execution or perversion of an act so far as determination of wether the action is executed or not. In simpler terms, reason has its place in determining morality, but it is not in the motivation of an action. Motivation must come from the heart, or better yet, from within the person; from their beliefs. Reason merely allows the person to make moral distinctions. Without reason, there would be no morality. Without reason, one moral clause would not be differentiable from another. That is to say that below all morals, there must be some underlying truth because Truth is disputable; not taste (p.14). If truth were not disputable, there would be no way to prove that a truth was just that.. . a truth. To make an analogy to mathematics, truth is a function of reason, whereas taste is a function of sentiment. Sentiment is a function of the individual whereas reason is a function of the universe. The universe as a whole must follow reason, but the catch is that each individuals universe is slightly different in that each individual perceives his or her universe differently. What each man feels within himself is the standard of sentiment. (p.14) That is to say each persons individual universe has truths. These truths are based on reason. These truths/reasons are what help to determine the persons sentiment. However, it should be noted that because the reasons are NOT necessarily the persons sentiments, they do not motivate actions. One other reason why reason does not impel action is because reason is based on truths. Truths are never changing whereas sentiments are dynamic and are in a constant change of flux. At one moment, the criminal could feel sympathy for his victims and decide to spare a life, and the very next, the same criminal could become enraged at the pimple on a hostages forehead and shoot him. Of course these are extreme cases, but the point is clear. Reason would dictate that only the first action would be moral. .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 , .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .postImageUrl , .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 , .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39:hover , .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39:visited , .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39:active { border:0!important; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39:active , .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39 .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1780f22845063fadb96550b2e8ebfe39:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Respite Volunteers Essay If reason drove actions, then moral behavior would prevail and there would be no immoral actions and hence there would be no crimes. This shows how sentiments can change as the individuals perception of the universe changes. Obviously, the driving force behind the criminal shooting the victim because of a skin blemish is not one based on reason, but instead it is based on feeling, emotion, sentiment. Although it is an abstract idea and a seemingly tiny technicality, it is easy to see that indeed reason is not the ultimate motivator but instead sentiment is.date = 19 Dec 96 03:24:49subject = Philosophy, Humetitle = An Enquiry Concerning the Principl es of Morals

He is also the known father of Maria Clara. In the novel, it is said that Capitan Tiago is the richest man in the region of Binondo and he possessed real properties in Pampanga and Laguna de Bay. He is also said to be a good Catholic, friend of the Spanish government and was considered as a Spanish by colonialists. Capitan Tiago never attended school, so he became a domestic helper of a Dominican friar who taught him informal education. He married Pia Alba from Santa Cruz. Damaso Verdolagas, or Padre Damaso is a Franciscan friar and former parish curate of San Diego. He is best known as a notorious character that speaks with harsh words and has been a cruel priest during his stay in the town. He is the real father of Maria Clara and an enemy of Crisostomos father, Rafael Ibarra. Later on, he and Maria Clara had bitter arguments whether she marry Alfonso Linares or go to covenant. At the end of the novel, he again re-assigned into a distant town and was found dead one day. In popular culture, when a priest was said to be like Padre Damaso, it means that he is a cruel but respectable individual. When one says a child is anak ni Padre Damaso (child of Padre Damaso), it means that the childs fathers identity is unknown. Filosofo Tacio, known by his Filipinized name Pilosopong Tasyo is another major character in the story. Seeking for reforms from the government, he expresses his ideals in paper written in a cryptographic alphabet similar from hieroglyphs and Coptic figures[13] hoping that the future generations may be able to decipher it and realized the abuse and oppression done by the conquerors. His full name is only known as Don Anastacio. The educated inhabitants of San Diego labeled him as Filosofo Tacio (Tacio the Philosopher) while others called him as Tacio el Loco (Insane Tacio) due to his exceptional talent for reasoning. Elias, is an important character in the story and was once Ibarras mysterious friend. Elias made his first appearance as a pilot during a picnic of Ibarra and Maria Clara and her friends. [15] He wants to revolutionize the country and to be freed from Spanish oppression. The 50th chapter of the novel explores the past of Elias and history of his family. In the past, Ibarras grandfather condemned Elias grandfather of burning a warehouse which lead into the misfortune of Elias family. His father was refused to be married by his mother because his fathers past and family lineage was discovered by his mothers family. In the long run, Elias and his twin sister was raised by their maternal grandfather. When they were teenagers, their distant relatives called them hijo de bastardo or illegitimate children. One day, his sister disappeared which led him to search for her. His search led him into different places, and finally, he became a fugitive and anti-government. Dona Victorina de Espadana, commonly known as Dona Victorina, is an ambitious Filipino woman who classifies herself as a Spanish and mimicking Spanish ladies by putting on heavy make-ups. The novel narrates Dona Victorinas younger days: she had lots of admirers but she never choose one of them because nobody was a Spaniard. Later on, she met Don Tiburcio de Espadana, an official to the customs bureau, which is about ten years junior than her. [18] Even though she got married, they never had a child. Her husband assumes the title as medical doctor even though Tiburcio never attended medical school. Using fake documents and certificates, Tiburcio is practicing illegal medicine. The usage of Tiburcio of the title Dr. also made Victorina to assume the title Dra. (doctora, female doctor). [18] Apparently, she uses the whole name Dona Victorina de los Reyes de de Espadana, with double de to emphasize her marriage surname. 2. Noli Me Tangere and Spanish Period in the Philippines Noli Me Tangere was Rizals first novel. He was 26 years old at the time of ts publication. The work was has been historically significant and was instrumental in the establishing of the Filipino sense of national identity. The book indirectly influenced a revolution although the author actually advocated direct representation to the Spanish government and larger role of the Philippines within Spains political affairs. The novel was written in Spanish, the official language of the colony that was understood by j ust about everyone thanks to the free public education system established by the Spanish government more than two decades before. The novel created so much controversy that only a few days after his arrival, Governor-General Emilio Terrero summoned Rizal to the Malacanang Palace and told him of the charges saying that Noli Me Tangere contained subversive statements. After a discussion, the liberal[citation needed] Governor General was appeased, but mentioned that he was unable to offer resistance against the pressure of the Church to take action against the book. The persecution can be discerned from Rizals letter to Leitmeritz: My book made a lot of noise; everywhere, I am asked about it. They wanted to anathematize me [to excommunicate me] because of it I am considered a German spy, an agent of Bismarck, they say I am a Protestant, a freemason, a sorcerer, a damned soul and evil. It is whispered that I want to draw plans, that I have a foreign passport and that I wander through the streets by night Rizal depiction of nationality by emphasizing the qualities of Filipinos: devotion of a Filipina and her influence to a mans life, the deep sense of gratitude, and the solid common sense of the Filipinos under the Spanish regime. The book was instrumental in creating a unified Filipino national identity and consciousness, as many Filipinos previously identified with their respective regions to the advantage of the Spanish authorities. It lampooned, caricatured and exposed various elements in colonial society. 3. Rizal’s Reasons for Coming Back to the Philippines During his five years absence from the Philippines Rizal had been receiving many letters from his brother Paciano, from his sisters Olimpia, Narcisa, Josefa, Maria, Saturnina, Lucia and her husband Mariano Herbosa, from his mother, and from friends in the Philippines. Hardly had he reached Spain when his friends wrote that a terrible epidemic of cholera was sweeping away thousands of victims in and near Manila. As letters concerning this scourge reached Rizal, they made his sensitive heart yearn to go to their relief. Joses father did not write any letters, but he sent word at every opportunity to say how proud he was of his sons achievements. And his mother, Paciano told him, burst into tears as she read his letters. Jose had taken Pacianos advice and written them only the news that would make them happy. What made Rizal most heartsick was to read how his father was having trouble with the Dominican friars who claimed his land, while the price of sugar was so low that the family nearly faced ruin. The third year Jose was strongly inclined to return, at least as far as Hong Kong, but Paciano urged him to stay away; and his friend Felipe Zamora told him never to come back until he had changed his nationality to German, English, or American, then the Spanish government would not dare to touch him. (01) After Noli Me Tangere had been printed and smuggled into the Philippines, Jose M. Cecilio (02) begged Rizal not to come back to the Islands for at least a year. We will wait and see what effect your book will produce. We are not now going to lose all the good of your brilliant career. We are doing all we can to make your book known; all who have read it are enthusiastic. But you stay there. I will write when you ought to come, as you believe, on account of your mother. He referred to the cataracts in Rizals mothers eyes; he had been preparing ever since 1882 five long years to save her sight. Another cause for many a heartache was the fact that after 1884 he did not receive letters from Leonor Rivera, (who always signed herself Faimis) but he did receive alarming news about her. In March of that year he learned from his friend Jose M. Cecilio that Leonors mother was opposed to her marrying Rizal. In truth, dear namesake, wrote Cecilio, this girl week by week is sick with fever, and it is, as you well know, the result of the ardent passion she feels for you. 4. Propagandas Against Noli Me Tangere Criticism and attacks against the Noli and its author came from all quarters. An anonymous letter signed A Friar and sent to Rizal, dated February 15, 1888, says in part: How ungrateful you are†¦ If you, or for that matter all your men, think you have a grievance, then challenge us and we shall pick up the gauntlet, for we are not cowards like you, which is not to say that a hidden hand will not put an end to your life. A special committee of the faculty of the University of Santo Tomas, at the request of the Archbishop Pedro Payo, found and condemned the novel as heretical, impious, and scandalous in its religious aspect, and unpatriotic, subversive of public order and harmful to the Spanish government and its administration of theses islands in its political aspect. On December 28, 1887, Fray Salvador Font, the cura of Tondo and chairman of the Permanent Commission of Censorship composed of laymen and ordered that the circulation of this pernicious book be absolutely prohibited. Not content, Font caused the circulation of copies of the prohibition, an act which brought an effect contrary to what he desired. Instead of what he expected, the negative publicity awakened more the curiosity of the people who managed to get copies of the book. Assisting Father Font in his aim to discredit the Noli was an Augustinian friar by the name of Jose Rodriguez. In a pamphlet entitled Caiingat Cayo (Beware). Fr. Rodriguez warned the people that in reading the book they commit mortal sin, considering that it was full of heresy. As far as Madrid, there was furor over the Noli, as evidenced by an article which bitterly criticized the novel published in a Madrid newspaper in January, 1890, and written by one Vicente Barrantes. In like manner, a member of the Senate in the Spanish Cortes assailed the novel as anti-Catholic, Protestant, socialistic. It is well to note that not detractors alone visibly reacted to the effects of the Noli. For if there were bitter critics, another group composed of staunch defenders found every reason to justify its publication and circulation to the greatest number of Filipinos. For instance, Marcelo H. Del Pilar, cleverly writing under an assumed name Dolores Manapat, successfully circulated a publication that negated the effect of Father Rodriguez’ Caiingat Cayo, Del Pilar’s piece was entitled Caiigat Cayo (Be Slippery as an Eel). Deceiving similar in format to Rodriguez’ Caiingat Cayo, the people were readily misled into getting not a copy o Rodriguez’ piece but Del Pillar’s. The Noli Me Tangere found another staunch defender in the person of a Catholic theologian of the Manila Cathedral, in Father Vicente Garcia. Under the pen-name Justo Desiderio Magalang. Father Garcia wrote a very scholarly defense of the Noli, claiming among other things that Rizal cannot be an ignorant man, being the product of Spanish officials and corrupt friars; he himself who had warned the people of committing mortal sin if they read the novel had therefore committed such sin for he has read the novel. Consequently, realizing how much the Noli had awakened his countrymen, to the point of defending his novel, Rizal said: Now I die content. Fittingly, Rizal found it a timely and effective gesture to dedicate his novel to the country of his people whose experiences and sufferings he wrote about, sufferings which he brought to light in an effort to awaken his countrymen to the truths that had long remained unspoken, although not totally unheard of. 5. Out of the Country†¦Again. On February 28, 1888, a year after the publication of Noli Me Tangere, and six months after his arrival in the Philippines, Jose Rizal sailed from Manila again, by advice of the government. The letters he wrote back home show how his heart ached at going, yet his judgment told him that it was best for him to go. The phenomenal effect of Noli Me Tangere made it clear that Rizal could wield a mighty influence through his pen, but to write the truth he would have to go to some country where he would be free from spies or plots. The spot he chose was the Library of the British Museum, the greatest library in the world.

The way â€Å"Classical Criminology† was viewed was that if the punishment was of public notice they were scaring the people from committing crimes. Beccaria believed that people wanted to commit crimes but wanted to avoid being tortured. He felt that criminals received some type of thrill and pleasure while committing the crime. Free Essays on Criminology Free Essays on Criminology The Code of King Hammauabi of Babylon, the Fourteenth Century B.C.’s Hittite Code, Draconian Code of Athens, and the Roman Law of the Twelve Tablets are past laws which have made the foundation for the death penalty, one of America’s most controversial issues today. Murder has been found to be the top reason why most inmates find themselves on death row now. However dating back to the time of King Hammauabi there have been twenty-five out of the two-hundred and forty-nine known codes where death is the punishment. Through-out the past thousands of years there has been significant revisions done to criminal law and the punishments that fit each crime. The death penalty as a punishment for murder can be dated further back in time to Biblical times. According to Kerby Anderson, author of the essay Capital Punishment, in Genesis the Bible states that â€Å"whoever sheds man’s blood, by man shall be shed, for in the image of God He made man.† Here it is clearly stated that the death penalty for murder was an accepted practice. It is even shown that God felt that certain punishment was deemed necessary for different crimes. â€Å"God destroyed two cities because of the heinous sin of the inhabitants.† Anderson also identifies how the Mosaic Law â€Å"set forth numerous offenses that were punishable by death. The first was murder.† Anderson also gives a strong argument against Christians who feel that â€Å"capital punishment does not apply to the New Testament and church age.† He finds that Romans 13: 1-7 â€Å"teaches that human government is ordained by God and that the civil magistrate is the minister of God.† According to Michael H. Reggio author of History of the Death Penalty, â€Å"Jews used many different techniques including stoning, hanging, beheading, crucifixion, throwing the criminal from a rock, and sawing asunder,† for various crimes.
